Amazingly, September has come and gone. It’s, without a doubt, my favorite month in Aspen. Changing leaves, perfect weather and tons of events make for a month that I wish would last forever. Below are some favorite pieces I tried last month while enjoying my time out and about:
1. Helinox Table One Hard Top
This is perhaps the happiest camp table I’ve ever seen. With a tye-dye top and bright orange legs, the Table One is sturdier than its hippie looks suggest. The hard top is durable, easy to clean and repels water. This version is a little lower than your standard table, which makes it the perfect height for camp chairs whether you’re playing cards or having cocktail hour. Weighing around 2 pounds, it rolls and folds up into its own zippered bag about the size of a loaf of bread. Among svelte tech and streamlined gear, a little bit of vintage vibe is always welcome these days. This modern twist on the antique Union Pacific lantern with its seeded glass and copper accents brings a warm glow to the atmosphere. A USB rechargeable battery will run the Edison-style bulb for over 100 hours on low or 3.5 hours on high. A built-in charging system will also let you charge other devices. A dimmer allows adjustment from 35 to 200 lumins. Lighter than it looks, the Railroad is available in four classic colors. $100, barebonesliving.com.
3. Kari Traa Rothe Fleece Jacket
As days get shorter and nights get colder, my coziness meter goes through the roof. This jacket from Kari Traa fits the bill with its soft, teddy-style fleece. Included are thick, but soft, ribbed cuffs, zippered hand pockets, a contrasting chest pocket, a high collar and a chin guard with zipper garage. It’s a great layering piece available in 15 different colors. $100, karitraa.com. Kari Traa products are also carried at the Ute Mountaineer in Aspen.
HydraPak carries some of my favorite products for water transport. The Pioneer is a large, 10-liter size perfect for larger groups or multi-day camp trips. A two-piece construction has a removable water storage reservoir and a durable outer sleeve with straps for carrying and/or hanging. Easy and quick to fill, the reservoir has a wide and water-tight slide-seal opening. A really cool feature is its Plug-N-Play tap that easily connects for quick dispensing. It’s easy to lose, so just make sure you store it in the pack. I’ve had this feature on another HydraPak product and lost it. $65, hydrapak.com.
Fall in the mountains is an amazing time for festivals. Whether you’re attending the Aspen Snowmass Jazz Fest, heading to Telluride Blues and Brews or venturing to one of the other numerous offerings around the state, a good hat is indispensable. I’ve been loving this responsibly-sourced, recycled-wool hat from tentree. A dented top, cork band and wide brim give it a boho feel appropriate for Rocky Mountain living.
